Job SummaryAssists in managing the Day‑Ahead/Real‑Time commercial power operations of Calpine’s west assets; including interaction with the CAISO for Bid/Offer submission of resources and outage management, scheduling of assets located within the WECC region. Monitor variables daily including supply/demand, renewable forecasts, weather, and market prices to determine optimal dispatch of Calpine’s Power assets. Create and distribute daily/monthly reports updating management on status of RT/DA PnL and track ongoing or upcoming outages.
Interface with Gas and Power traders daily, communicating status updates on power assets and any changes impacting daily positions. Work with commercial IT teams to ensure software utilized by real time desk is functioning properly and any appropriate updates are implemented in a timely fashion.
- Solid, working knowledge of market tariffs (CAISO preferred), Open Access Transmission Tariffs (OATTs), and Day Ahead/Real Time Commercial Operations
- Experienced professional with full understanding of job, company and industry practices.
- Performs in fully‑functioning capacity, equivalent to a journey level contributor.
- Makes decisions regarding own work, often in ambiguous situations; makes recommendations regarding own function/discipline.
- Solves operational problems and associated technical issues; modifies existing tools, techniques or processes.
- Works on problems of moderate complexity.
- Uses independent judgment within defined policies and practices. Interprets guidelines, select methods, techniques and analytical approach.
- Limited instruction on day‑to‑day work, general instructions on new assignments.
- May be designated project or technical lead for an ongoing process or short‑term project within own department.
- Information sharing – gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instruction and reporting results.
- Bachelor’s Degree required; preferably in Business, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Accounting, Economics or equivalent.
- Journey – level; typically requires 2‑5 experience.
- Strong mathematical and organizational skills and intermediate to advanced Excel/spreadsheet/database skills.
- Proven experience in multi‑tasking and project management skills in a fast‑paced environment
