The Part-time Specialist IV, Reference Assistant assists in reference services and daily operations in the children’s library, providing reference service at the Reference Desks under the supervision of reference librarians.
Essential Job Functions- Provide reference assistance to library users using print and non-print materials
- Assist users with the online catalog, electronic databases, and other online systems
- Provide directional information in locating materials
- Answer telephone, chat, and text reference questions and refer users to appropriate resources
- Assist users with equipment usage and computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher
- Assist users in locating digital media in the digital media catalog and help users download eBooks and audio books to mobile devices
- Participate in library programming such as computer workshops, story times, crafts, book clubs, and seminars
- Maintain photocopier and printers in reference area, ensuring paper and toner is full, machines are clean, and contact Office of Technology Services as needed for technical issues
- Assist users in checking out materials from the library
- Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

- Ability to work without daily supervision
The work is sedentary. The employee sits comfortably to do the work, with some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, and driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required.
Work Schedule and Conditions- Equipment used includes PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
- Work performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
- High school diploma or GED and at least 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Associate’s degree
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Library experience
Hourly Pay Rate is $16.33
