Macdonald & Company have been exclusively retained by a growing real estate private equity firm to find and appoint a Property Accountant to join their expanding team in Houston.
The firm specializes in the acquisition and operation of multifamily real estate assets in high-growth U.S. markets and is experiencing continued portfolio expansion. This role presents an opportunity to join a lean, entrepreneurial platform and work closely with senior leadership in a high-impact accounting position. Our client is seeking a Property Accountant with 2–3 years of experience in commercial real estate, with a strong preference for multifamily exposure.
Reporting directly to senior leadership, the successful candidate will be responsible for the accounting functions related to the firm's real estate portfolio and associated corporate entities.
The activities listed below are representative of the role but not all-inclusive. The successful candidate will demonstrate core competencies in the following areas:
- Maintain full-cycle bookkeeping for a multifamily apartment portfolio
- Process and manage accounts payable (AP), including vendor invoices from apartment communities
- Handle payroll processing and related accounting entries
- Execute bank transactions, including ACH transfers and wire payments
- Reconcile bank and operating accounts across multiple properties
- Input and maintain accurate financial data within property management and accounting systems
- Ensure proper expense coding and adherence to internal accounting policies
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Produce customized financial and operational reports for ownership and management
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Maintain organized accounting records for audits and compliance
- Collaborate with property management teams to resolve accounting discrepancies
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a minimum of 3 years’ relevant accounting experience
- Prior experience in commercial real estate accounting, preferably multifamily
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Quick Books
