Accounting Manager
We are a well-established, privately held wholesale distributor serving commercial clients across multiple states. We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead and strengthen our accounting operations.
Position OverviewThe Controller will oversee all accounting and financial operations of the company. This individual will be responsible for managing the full accounting cycle, leading the accounting team, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and partnering with ownership to support strategic decision-making.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strong technical accounting expertise and the ability to manage and develop a team.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage the entire accounting department
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to executive leadership
- Oversee account reconciliations (bank, credit card, inventory, intercompany, etc.)
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation
- Ensure timely and accurate journal entries
- Oversee and process payroll through ADP
- Ensure accuracy of payroll reporting and tax filings
- Manage payroll reconciliations and benefit-related accounting
- Manage company banking relationships
- Oversee daily cash flow monitoring and forecasting
- Handle wire transfers, ACH activity, and banking reconciliations
- Support borrowing base reporting (if applicable)
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures
- Coordinate with external CPA firm for annual reviews/audits and tax preparation
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Hire, train, mentor, and develop accounting staff
- Establish clear processes and accountability within the department
- Drive efficiency improvements and system enhancements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership
- Experience in wholesale, distribution, manufacturing, or product-based environments strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Experience with ADP payroll systems
- Advanced Excel skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
