Financial Controller

Overview

Our client is seeking a Financial Controller to join their mechanical contracting firm in Houston, TX. This role will report directly to the President and oversee accounting and human resources functions. Ideal candidates will have construction accounting experience, including percentage of completion and WIP (Work In Progress) analysis.

• Manage accounting operations: A/R, A/P, general ledger, and financial reporting.
• Oversee payroll, benefits, and HR compliance.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Lead budgeting and forecasting, providing insights to senior management.
• Participate in WIP meetings and ensure accurate project cost reporting.
• Develop internal controls and maintain compliance with accounting standards.
• Support tax planning and external audits.

• Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
• 5-7 years of accounting experience, with 3+ years in construction or mechanical contracting.
• Experience managing $25-$50M revenue level firms.
• Proficiency in percentage of completion and WIP reporting.
• Strong communication skills, hands-on work style, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with construction accounting software.
