ABOUTTHE ROLE
Our Client is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the Accounting and Finance function by maintaining accurate financial records and contributing to timely and reliable financial reporting. This role plays a critical part in the monthly close process, account reconciliations, and financial analysis, while partnering closely with operations and senior accounting team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Participate in the monthly financial close process, including preparation of journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Perform month-end close procedures for assigned accounts and vessels, including journal entries and reconciliations for cash, prepaid insurance, accruals, payroll, purchase orders, and other expenses.
- Assist with internal and external financial reporting requirements.
- Compile and analyze financial data to support the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
- Review and analyze financial results at the vessel, port, and company level to ensure accuracy and completeness for reporting purposes.
- Partner with operations teams to investigate and explain significant variances between actual results, prior periods, and budget or forecast.
- Monitor bank accounts and assist with weekly cash flow projections.
- Prepare audit schedules and support internal and external audit requests.
- Assist in analyzing current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to help predict future revenues and expenses.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent.
- One to two years of accounting experience, with public accounting audit experience considered a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and operational reporting tools.
- Experience working with an accounting ERP system.
- Public accounting experience or CPA credential.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and comfort assisting with operational challenges and recommending solutions.
- Sound situational judgment in fast-paced operational environments.
- Collaborative team player who contributes positively to cross-functional teamwork and communication.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate needs, identify issues, and take initiative with minimal direction.
- Dependable work style with consistent follow-through, accuracy, and adherence to deadlines.
