Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting, Accounting & Finance
Our client is a well-established company with roots dating back to 1925, serving the oil & gas, petrochemical, municipal, and industrial markets. In 2025, the company merged with a Houston-based, private equity–backed parent, creating a strong platform for continued growth and expansion within the same industry sector. This is a hands-on, growth-oriented environment where experienced professionals can have a meaningful impact.
Position Summary
The company is seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to take full ownership of accounting operations for a business unit based in East Houston. This is a 100% in-office role with responsibility across the full accounting lifecycle, including financial reporting, project-based revenue recognition (POC), ERP/system ownership, and process improvement.
While this role does not include direct people management, it is highly visible and works closely with senior leadership and the parent company’s finance team. The ideal candidate is technically strong, comfortable operating independently, and motivated by building scalable accounting practices in a private-equity backed growth environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Own full business-unit accounting: general ledger, month-end/year-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, and account analysis.
- Apply Percentage-of-Completion (POC) accounting for project-based revenue; partner closely with project and operations teams.
- Manage intercompany accounting and consolidations, coordinating with the parent company.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reporting for management and ownership.
- Serve as the accounting system lead for the business unit, maintaining and enhancing the ERP (Epicor preferred or similar).
- Review, document, and improve accounting processes, controls, and procedures to support growth and scalability.
- Act as a key contributor to continuous improvement and value creation initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- 5–20 years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience in a mid-market, project-based environment.
- Strong experience with POC accounting, consolidations, and intercompany accounting.
- ERP experience required (Epicor preferred).
- Background in industrial services, construction, fabrication, engineering, or project-based businesses is a plus.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating as a senior individual contributor.
- Must be willing to work fully onsite in East Houston, TX.
Why This Role
- High-visibility, hands-on role with ownership of accounting for a growing business unit.
- Opportunity to shape systems, controls, and processes in a private-equity backed environment.
- Strong long-term growth potential within both the business unit and the parent organization.
- Ideal for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and building for scale.
