Controller, Accounting, Accounting Manager

A growing, multi-location service organization in the Houston area is seeking an experienced Controller to take full ownership of day-to-day accounting operations. The business operates across several high-performing sites and is known for its commitment to strong operational standards, integrity, and reliable customer service.

This role requires a seasoned accounting professional who can operate independently from day one. The Controller will manage financial operations across multiple entities, lead the month-end close cycle, and supervise a small accounting team (two direct reports).

This is a fully on-site position, requiring consistent presence to maintain tight control over accounting processes, ensure accurate reporting, and proactively address issues as they arise.

• Oversee month-end close, including bank and credit card reconciliations for all business units.
• Maintain and reconcile all balance sheet accounts with accuracy and consistency.
• Prepare profit & loss statements for multiple locations and deliver timely financial insights to leadership.
• Investigate and resolve COGS discrepancies between internal point-of-sale systems and vendor documentation.

• Serve as the primary contact for both internal and external audits.
• Manage intercompany transactions and ensure accurate cross-entity alignment.
• Oversee credit card disputes, chargebacks, and vendor account reconciliation.
• Maintain accurate vendor records, payment activity, and credit applications.
• Track and update operational asset inventory as needed for insurance and internal reporting.

• Supervise two accounting staff members, including Accounts Payable support.
• Resolve escalated AP issues and ensure smooth workflow within the department.
• Coach and develop team members to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Continuously assess and refine accounting processes to support growth and operational excellence.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing accounting operations for multi-location or multi-entity businesses.
• Familiarity with Net Suite is required.
• Prior experience managing staff and handling full-cycle accounting.
• Strong month-end close, reconciliation, and financial reporting expertise.
• Ability to work full-time on-site in Houston, TX.
• Willingness to work extended hours during close cycles as needed.

• CPA strongly preferred.
• Experience in service-based, retail, or multi-location environments.
• Advanced Excel capabilities (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, advanced formulas).
