Investment Accountant

Position SummaryJoin a global leader in specialty insurance and make an impact as an Investment Accountant. In this role, you’ll ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company’s investment financials by analyzing data, preparing reconciliations, and supporting key reporting processes. You’ll collaborate with a dedicated accounting team, gain exposure to complex investment instruments, and contribute to a culture of excellence, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Compile and analyze financial information related to the company’s investments to prepare and post entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts.
- Assist with general ledger duties for monthly activity and closings.
- Analyze and approve basic monthly balance sheet reconciliations and prepare monthly reconciliation of long‑term investments reports from outside vendors.
- Review past‑due income items and run impairment schedules in the vendor system.
- Coordinate with outside vendors to correct issues and problems during monthly processing.
- Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliations for specified accounts.
- Proactively detect, research, and resolve reconciliation items.
- Analyze and document variances in account balances between periods.
- Prepare various schedules required for quarterly and annual statutory reporting.
- Administer pledged securities portfolio.
- Assist in providing data requested by external auditors.
Education
Minimum: 4‑year Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent education and/or experience.
Certifications, Licenses, and Designations
Preferred:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Experience
2+ years of progressive professional experience in Accounting and/or Finance.
Other
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles.
- Ability to apply knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
- Advanced organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable business areas.
- Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word).
