Description
To perform job functions required and assigned in the fabrication of structural/piping materials per the contract/job specifications and quality assurance requirements/fitting procedures and established ISO/QC program standards. The Welder’s job duties are to properly weld structure or pipe to construct an offshore platform. In addition, the Offshore Rope Access Level I or II Combo Welder, under the direct supervision of a Rope Access Level III Superintendent, safely carries out fundamental inspections, upkeep, repairs, including, but not limited to: blasting, painting and rigging tasks on offshore platforms using rope access techniques and equipment.
This position is located Offshore in the Gulf of America, formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico.
- Set and operate welding machine for applicable welding processes
- Perform welding processes assigned for structural, pipe, and welding projects
- Pass required welding test per AWS D1.1 latest edition, ASME section IX, and API 1104
- Maintain quality of welding that can pass NDT testing procedures
- Perform welding assignments safely and efficiently, always practicing safety
- Operate appropriate hand tools (chipping hammers, grinders, etc.)
- Weld separately or in combination, using aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, carbon steel, and other alloys
- Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to welding chart specifications or any thickness of metals
- Determine required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of welding techniques
- Connect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure to obtain desired flames
- Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking distortion, or expansion of the material
- Expertly welds small, medium, and large structural and pipes of various metals and alloys
- Expertly welds small, medium, and large structural items
- Be able to weld structure (beams, grating, stairways) and pipe
- Assist with building a scaffold to access all areas on structure, pipe, or deck
- Pull up leads to weld on deck
- Transport welding equipment in the yard to the work area
- Use rope access techniques to perform basic inspections, maintenance, repairs, blasting, painting and rigging on offshore platforms under the direct supervision of a Rope Access Level III Technician or Superintendent
- Use welding, blasting and painting tools, equipment, and techniques in the coating and welding of offshore platforms while accessing difficult-to-reach areas
- Adhere to safety procedures, including proper equipment inspection, fall protection measures and communication protocols
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills of a SPRAT or IRATA Rope Access Level I Technician
- Document and communicate work completed, including any issues or incidents
- Maintain climbing logbook per SPRAT/IRATA guidelines
- Perform basic self-rescue maneuvers
- Attend safety meetings and perform safety checks
- Assist other technicians
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

- 2+ years direct offshore welding experience
- 2+ years experience as a Rope Access Level I or II Combo Welder offshore
- Experience with 6G 2” & 6” GTAW/FCAW and 6GR
-FCAW welding - Must successfully demonstrate the ability to pass a practical welding test
- Must possess an active SPRAT or IRATA Level I or II Certification
- Must possess theoretical knowledge of rope access equipment and techniques
- Ability to work at heights
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
- Must be able to pass a background check
