Overview
Summary The purpose of the GS-05 position is to perform routine and uncomplicated biological science tasks common to natural resource management. The GS-06 position includes uncomplicated technical biological science tasks common to natural resource management. The GS-07 position includes a wide variety of complex biological science technical support functions.
Major DutiesMajor duties vary for each park and may include but are not limited to the following:
- GS-05:
Establish and maintain vegetation restoration projects including planting and caring for native trees, shrubs, and grasses. - Identify native and invasive plant species and support vegetation monitoring and measurements.
- Foot travel to locations to use equipment; collect clear and accurate notes and data; work as a team member.
- Make field observations of natural resource conditions.
- Manage invasive and exotic plant species using chemical, manual, and biological control techniques.
- Collect and manage field data using GPS units, tablets, digital camera, paper, and other technology, maintaining accurate records.
- Mix, load, and apply herbicide per label instruction using various application equipment (ATV, UTV, handheld, backpack sprayers, etc.). ATV and/or UTV operators must be able to safely operate through multiple terrain types.
- Assist in the preparation of reports, plans and guidelines.
- Provide logistical support and area orientation for contract or cooperating scientists.
- Install, operate, and maintain resource management equipment (e.g., tools, sampling, monitoring, photographic, and laboratory equipment).
GS-06 includes the duties above plus:
- Providing support for planning and logistics.
- Support planning and program implementation.
GS-07 includes the duties above plus:
- Provide leadership and guidance to team members during field operations and data collection.
- Train others in plant identification and data collection.

Salary scales vary by locality and pay plan. The following representative ranges are provided for reference:

- GS-05: $19.52 - $25.37
- GS-06: $21.76 - $28.29
- GS-07: $24.18 - $31.43
- (CUVA) CUVA scale: GS-05: $20.38 - $26.50; GS-06: $22.72 - $29.53; GS-07: $25.25 - $32.82
- (MSP payscale) IPMT: GS-05: $21.28 - $27.66; GS-06: $23.72 - $30.84; GS-07: $26.36 - $34.27
- (CHI payscale) INDU: GS-05: $21.82 - $28.37; GS-06: $24.32 - $31.62; GS-07: $27.03 - $35.14

- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. - Driver's License:
You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver’s license is required. You must also submit driving records as required. - Uniform:
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. - Travel:
You may be required to travel overnight away from home. Government charge card is required for travel. - Minimum age: 18 or 16 with certain conditions as specified.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Your resume must clearly indicate duties and responsibilities, start/end dates, and hours worked. If qualifying by education, submit transcripts.
GS-05 minimum qualifications by close of announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree with relevant science coursework or 24 semester hours in related fields, with at least 6 hours directly related.
