1.Job Summary
Frontline Insourcing is recruiting experienced Non‑Obstetric Ultrasound Sonographers to support a long‑term NHS in sourcing service at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (JPUH).
The post‑holder will deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred ultrasound examinations and reporting within a clinically governed Trust environment, supporting additional diagnostic capacity and contributing to improved patient access and reduced waiting times.
2. Key Objectives of the Role- Deliver safe, effective and timely non‑obstetric ultrasound scanning to NHS patients.
- Ensure accurate and clinically appropriate documentation and reporting using the Trust’s reporting system (CRIS).
- Uphold Trust standards, clinical governance and professional accountability at all times.
- Contribute to the delivery of agreed activity volumes while maintaining quality, dignity and patient experience.
Clinical Delivery
- Undertake a wide range of non‑obstetric ultrasound examinations including General Medical, Gynaecology and MSK (non‑injection) scans.
- Apply appropriate professional judgement and clinical reasoning during examinations, escalating concerns appropriately.
- Ensure patient safety, comfort, dignity and consent throughout the patient pathway.
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and staff in a professional, compassionate manner.
Reporting & Documentation
- Produce accurate, complete and timely ultrasound reports on the CRIS reporting system.
- Ensure all examinations are documented in accordance with local pathways, Trust policies and national standards.
- Maintain clear, contemporaneous clinical records and adhere to information governance requirements.
Governance & Professional Practice
- Work in accordance with HCPC Standards of Proficiency, local Trust policies and departmental procedures.
- Participate in local clinical governance processes, including incident reporting, duty of candour and escalation processes.
- Maintain a high standard of infection prevention and control and comply with relevant health and safety requirements.
Service Delivery
- Deliver scanning sessions within the agreed clinical service model:
Friday to Monday, 09:00–18:00, 20‑minute appointments, minimum activity expectations (subject to clinical appropriateness and case‑mix). - Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, supporting smooth service mobilisation and delivery.
- Minimum expected activity: 100 scans per week / 400 scans per month
- Working days:
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday - Session: 09:00–18:00
- Appointment duration: 20 minutes
- Facilities: 1 ultrasound room per day
- Equipment:
Provided by the Trust
- Attend a mandatory paid departmental induction (1 hour) prior to commencing work, including equipment and room orientation, local service processes, reporting workflows, escalation pathways and governance expectations.
- Complete required training for CRIS, including access provisioning and local system orientation.
A. Qualifications / Professional Registration
- HCPC registration as a Sonographer or Radiographer – Essential
- Recognised advanced ultrasound qualification – Essential
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to ultrasound practice – Essential
- Postgraduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound (or equivalent) – Essential
- Previous NHS experience working within an ultrasound service – Essential
- Demonstrable competence in non‑obstetric ultrasound scanning – Essential
