Salary: £23,175 per annum

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a specialist education setting in Horsham to recruit committed and compassionate Autism Learning Support Assistants. This role is ideal for someone who is motivated by making a genuine difference to young people’s lives and understands that the right personality, patience and emotional intelligence are just as important as formal experience.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), helping them develop confidence, independence and emotional regulation within a structured and nurturing environment.

Please note:

Applicants must be able to drive to the school or obtain a very reliable lift in order to be considered for this role, due to the school’s location and limited public transport access.

The Role

As an Autism Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and therapists to support pupils on a 1:1 or small-group basis. You will play a key role in helping students access learning, manage behaviour positively and feel safe, understood and supported throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide consistent 1:1 or small group support to pupils with Autism

Support emotional regulation, communication and social interaction

Assist with the delivery of tailored learning activities and EHCP targets

Implement behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques

Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils through patience and empathy

Support pupils during transitions and less structured parts of the day

Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN professionals and support staff

Maintain clear records and contribute to progress reviews

Person Specification

We are looking for individuals who bring the right mindset as well as relevant experience.

Essential Qualities:

Calm, resilient and emotionally intelligent

Naturally patient, empathetic and adaptable

Confident building relationships with pupils who may communicate differently

Able to remain composed during challenging moments

Willing to learn and take feedback positively

Able to drive to the school or obtain a very reliable lift (this is essential)

Desirable Experience (not essential):

Previous experience supporting children or young people with Autism or SEN

Background in education, care, psychology, youth work or support work

Knowledge of behaviour management strategies
