Primary Job Function
Support the manufacturing areas with plant focus on minimizing downtime, increasing productivity and maintaining the overall Toyota Production System and company policies/procedures. As a tool and die technician, you will repair and maintain progressive and transfer stamping tools. This position is ideal for a Tool & Die Maker with exceptional technical expertise and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
Primary Responsibilities- Support production to ensure tools are ready for production.
- Make repairs and improvements on stamping dies, fixtures, weld cells, and swage machines.
- Use manual tools to repair and maintain stamping progressive and transfer dies.
- Use manual and automatic surface grinders to complete the required work.
- Measure and make shims to ensure proper timing of the die.
- Weld and repair worn or broken die details.
- Use an overhead crane to move and flip dies daily.
- Troubleshoot parts when quality issues arise and adjust dies to improve part condition.
- Verify work in spotting press to ensure accuracy.
- Troubleshoot die while in press and complete necessary repairs.
- Complete predictive preventive maintenance on progressive and transfer dies.
- Work with Journeyman Tool & Die makers to complete tasks.
- Maintain a clean, orderly work area and equipment.
- Document completion of all required processes in Asset Essentials system.
- Read technical drawings and blueprints.
- Use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauge, etc.) to check tool dimensions and ensure accurate part quality.
- Have personal tools (toolbox, micrometers, calipers, depth mic, squares, allen wrenches, impact gun, etc.) to complete tasks.
- Work with Engineering department to improve processes.
- Utilize TPS (Toyota Production System) techniques to standardize methods, identify waste and eliminate it.
- Maintain daily 5S in the work area and with assigned equipment.
- Understand and follow the TB Way philosophy and work in a team‑oriented environment.
- Work beyond the regular schedule, including daily and weekend overtime, to meet Just‑In‑Time demands.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Tool and Die certificate/diploma or equivalent experience.
- 5 years Tool & Die Progressive die experience.
- 2‑5 years of welding experience.
- 2‑5 years of CAD, CNC programming experience (plus Master Cam).
- Experience in CNC, Machine shop, Kaizen.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Flexibility in a changing working environment.
- Good math and communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Must work a fixed or rotating shift schedule, including daily or weekend overtime.
- Strong attention to detail and professionalism.
- Highly motivated self‑starter who can adapt in a fast‑paced, multicultural environment.
- Ability to remain confidential regarding information encountered.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Tool and Die certificate/diploma or equivalent experience required.
- 5 years Tool & Die Progressive die experience required.
- 2‑5 years welding required.
- 2‑5 years CAD, CNC programming a plus.
- Experience drawing & programming with Master Cam a plus.
- CNC, Machine shop, Kaizen experience a plus.
- Ability to participate in additional training as needed.
- Good problem solving and analytical skills.
- Flexibility in a changing working environment.
- Good math and communication skills.
