Tool & Die Technician - Nights
Join Toyota Boshoku America in Hopkinsville, KY (or Clarksville, TN). This overnight role supports continuous production by repairing and maintaining progressive and transfer stamping tools, ensuring high quality and minimizing downtime.
Responsibilities- Support production by ensuring all tools are ready for use.
- Repair and improve stamping dies, fixtures, weld cells, and swage machines using manual tools.
- Use manual and automatic surface grinders and precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauge) to complete work and maintain tool dimensions.
- Make shims and perform timing corrections to keep die operation accurate.
- Operate overhead cranes to move and flip dies daily.
- Diagnose quality issues, adjust dies in press, and complete repairs as needed.
- Complete predictive preventive maintenance (PMs) on progressive and transfer dies.
- Collaborate with other Journeyman Tool & Die makers on task completion.
- Maintain a clean, orderly work area and equipment.
- Document all processes in the Asset Essentials system.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Work overtime, including daily and weekend shifts, to meet just‑in‑time demands.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Tool and Die certificate/diploma or equivalent experience required.
- 5 years’ Tool & Die progressive die experience.
- 2‑5 years’ welding experience.
- Experience with CAD, CNC programming, Master Cam, or related software (plus).
- Machine shop and Kaizen experience (plus).
- Strong problem‑solving, analytical, math, and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to a changing work environment and work in a fast‑paced, multicultural setting.
- Proficiency with precision measuring equipment and diverse hand tools.
- Capability to work a fixed or rotating shift schedule, including daily or weekend overtime.
- Excellent attention to detail, customer service orientation, and professionalism.
- Flexibility, strong teamwork, and the ability to communicate across all organizational levels.
- Physical ability to stand, bend, walk, lift up to 30 pounds, and perform repetitive motions.
- Willingness to participate in additional training as needed.
- English (written & verbal) – required.
- Japanese and Spanish (written & verbal) – plus.
- Basic Microsoft Office required.
- Experience with Master Cam, Solid Works, AutoCAD or other programming software (plus).
Standard automotive plant environment with high decibel levels, flashing lights and alarms. PPE such as safety glasses, toe shoes, hearing protection, heat‑protective gloves, and sleeves are required. The job involves standing, bending, reaching, lifting (up to 30 lbs alone and occasionally over 30 lbs with assistance), kneeling, crouching, and occasional work from heights.
