MissionThe mission of Carver Scott Humane Society (CSHS) is connecting animals in need with people who care.
PurposeThe Cat Care Lead will play a critical role in ensuring the well-being, comfort, and enrichment of all cats housed in our animal shelter. This individual will coordinate and oversee the work of a dedicated team of volunteers who provide daily care to the cats while they wait to find their forever homes. This position requires a compassionate leader who is organized, experienced in animal care, and skilled in motivating and training volunteers.
This position is a volunteer position.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers dedicated to cat care, ensuring they follow established shelter protocols for feeding, cleaning, health monitoring, and socialization.
- Provide ongoing support, guidance, and performance feedback to volunteers, fostering a positive and respectful environment.
- Organize regular training sessions on best practices in cat handling, behavior assessment, and health care, with a focus on safety and welfare.
- Coordinate and manage the daily schedules of volunteers to ensure adequate coverage for cat care tasks, including feeding, cleaning, and enrichment activities.
- Collaborate with the Cat Care Team and staff on suggestions, feedback, and ideas to improve the overall health and experience of our feline residents including but not limited to socialization, enrichment, decompression time, etc.
- Act as a liaison between the shelter staff and the volunteer team, ensuring that all parties are informed of cat care updates, health status, and any operational changes.
- Coordinate with shelter staff to address any concerns or special needs of the cats
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Passionate about animal welfare and committed to providing a high standard of care.
- Prior experience working with animals, preferably in a shelter or rescue environment.
- Patient, empathetic, and attentive to the needs of both animals and volunteers.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
- Familiarity with feline behavior, health, and wellness practices.
- Ability to handle physical work, including lifting and bending, as part of cat care duties.
Approximately 5-10 hours per week. Flexible schedule with some on-site presence required for training as well as overall team collaboration.
