Job SummaryThe Geotechnical Engineer provides professional engineering and sales counsel for all major technical areas related to the design and performance of concrete retaining walls and retaining wall systems. The engineer also supports Oldcastle Companies as directed by the VP of Commercial Hardscapes and delivers technical support to managers and employees within Oldcastle.
Job LocationThis position is remote; candidates must reside in Minnesota.
Job Responsibilities- Establish design standards (methodology, minimum factors of safety, etc.) for all retaining wall plans issued by or on behalf of Oldcastle.
- Ensure the suitability of all Anchor Diamond blocks for their intended functions and issue written reports on their suitability.
- Identify the needs of design professionals, obtain performance data for Anchor Diamond blocks, and maintain the data.
- Ensure the suitability of Anchor Diamond design/estimating software, design manuals, and other literature for intended purposes.
- Review, maintain, and update Anchor Diamond design/estimating software and manuals as needed.
- Obtain necessary approvals of Anchor Diamond and Belgard products from review bodies and regulatory bodies (HITEC, ICC, DOT, ETC.) and maintain records.
- Stay current with industry developments and attend industry meetings as necessary.
- Act as the technical representative for Oldcastle to the industry.
- Coordinate/supervise all forensic work related to performance of retaining walls constructed with Anchor Diamond and Belgard blocks.
- Provide engineering services to key accounts as directed by the VP of Commercial Hardscapes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 5+ years of experience as a geotechnical engineer.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and certification as a Professional Engineer (preferred).
- High degree of technical skill to understand product and application information.
- Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with computer-aided design, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to work on manufacturing sites with exposure to dirt, dust, dampness, construction debris, extreme weather, heavy equipment, and noise.
- Strong project management abilities.
- Travel up to 50%.
- Base salary $100,000–$120,000 plus opportunity for an annual bonus.
