Description
The Blake School seeks a collaborative, creative and dynamic long-term substitute Spanish teacher to join our Upper Elementary (UE) Spanish-language faculty from Feb. 9 through April 15, 2026. This is a 1.0 FTE temporary position to cover a medical leave. The position is not eligible for benefits. Application review will begin Jan. 30, 2026.
Essential Responsibilities- Teach all grades 3 and 5 Spanish-languages classes with the regular assistance of the UE Spanish-language Amity intern
- Work closely with the Upper Elementary Spanish-language faculty team Amity intern to implement lessons plans and lead class activities that develop foundational literacy and inquiry skills in Spanish
- Participate in departmental, divisional and all-school initiatives and meetings
- Feb. 9 - April 15, 2026
- Salary Range: $11,671- $17,794 (assuming 4-15 years of teaching experience with adjustments made outside of that range of experience)
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold an undergraduate degree in Spanish language, another relevant world language, linguistics or a related field with a strong preference for an advanced degree or work toward an advanced degree in a relevant field
- Have substantial professional experience in world language education with a preference for elementary school-level experience, enthusiasm for working with younger learners and commitment to supporting them in developing a high level of Spanish proficiency
- Have a fine-tuned ability to understand and bridge diverse perspectives, identities and lived experiences and the capacity to model and teach students to engage across differences.
- Demonstrate expertise in the student-centered pedagogical practices of proficiency-based Spanish teaching and learning and in developing student knowledge of content and curriculum
- Demonstrate knowledge and commitment to meeting both the academic and social-emotional needs of elementary-aged students
- Have experience incorporating a wide range of texts, media and technology to enrich and embrace the ever-changing nature of teaching and learning
- Demonstrate prior success in working collaboratively and harmoniously with other adults in an educational setting
