The Chemical Operators work on a rotating shift team, focusing on field and control room chemical unit operations for safely running process systems and associated equipment during their shift. Typical duties of the operator role include but are not limited to the following:
The Field Operator operates field equipment, draws process samples and prepares equipment for maintenance. The Control Room Operator monitors and operates equipment and facilities which includes combustion units, scrubbers, absorption towers, heat exchangers, and tanks via the Distributed Control System (DCS).
- Adhere to standard work and standard operating procedures to ensure unit safety, quality and production goals are met
- Take and interpret readings on various equipment, assess any variation to standard, troubleshoot and take action to bring the process back to standard
- Troubleshoot process issues and take corrective action to ensure a safe and sustainable operating area
- Handle and work with highly hazardous chemicals and wear full body PPE (personal protective equipment)
- Communicate and escalate processes upsets and/or equipment issues within the organization
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, and/or chemical plant environment
- 1 year of Chemical Operations background/experience is strongly preferred
- Ability to work on a 12‑hour rotating shift schedule
- Team environment work skills
- Physical labor capability associated with the job
- Strong work ethic and initiative to learn new processes
- Ability to work at elevated heights (>50 feet)
- Confined space work experience
- Demonstrated ability to deliver a safe workplace based on following standard work
- Advanced troubleshooting skills in an industrial setting
- Ability to handle highly hazardous chemical intermediates and wear full body PPE, including acid suit, full face respirator and hood
- Ability to load and unload bulk liquid chemical trucks and rail cars
- Strong communication skills across multiple layers of the organization
- Computer literate
The hourly rate for this position is $26.14.
