- Knows, understands, and applies general lab policies/procedures as well as department/section specific policies, including regulatory guidelines; reviews posted policy changes.
- Assesses situations, considers options and formulates appropriate actions; performs duties independently with little or no supervision.
- Demonstrates initial and annual competency in all appropriate designated lab sections within set deadlines; completes tasks accurately when scheduled; participates in continuing education activities.
- Participates in all facility/corporate mandatory training annually and as required within set deadlines.
- Assists the laboratory team in miscellaneous duties, including specimen receiving and placing supplies when received.
- Effectively organizes and completes daily tasks in assigned area(s).
- Investigates/ resolves specimen collection problems using Outstanding Specimen Report (OSR) and specimen tracking tools when appropriate; documents and communicates actions to relevant individuals.
- Trains new employees and/or students in general lab policies/procedures and department/section specific policies.
- Explains procedures and uses appropriate communication interventions for the age being served, as well as for all customers across all ages and populations.
- Adheres to all policies relating to the JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals for the Laboratory, including patient identification and effective communication with other caregivers.
- Required: Phlebotomy experience/training.
- Preferred: Phlebotomy Certification.
