Job Overview

Hidden Roots Mental Health, LLC is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) to join our team. The PRS will use their lived experience in recovery to support individuals with mental health and/or substance use challenges. The role involves providing peer support, mentorship, and advocacy to clients, guiding them through their recovery journey while fostering hope, resilience, and empowerment.

Scope

  • Provide individualized support to clients, drawing on your lived experience in recovery. Offer encouragement, motivation, and hope to help clients navigate their recovery.
  • Will be involved in Mobile Crisis Response, working alongside a team member to provide immediate support during crises. This role will be supervised by a Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) to ensure appropriate guidance and oversight.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, advocating for clients within the mental health and substance use systems. Help clients access community resources and services.
  • Work collaboratively with clients and treatment teams to develop and implement recovery-oriented plans, goals, and strategies.
  • Assist clients during times of crisis, offering immediate peer support and helping to de-escalate situations. Ensure clients have access to necessary crisis intervention services.
  • Lead or co-facilitate recovery-focused groups, workshops, or meetings to promote personal growth, recovery skills, and community connection.
  • Help clients connect with healthcare providers, community resources, social services, and other support systems to meet their needs.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of client interactions, progress, and treatment plans. Ensure compliance with all confidentiality and regulatory requirements.
  • Educate clients about recovery options, coping strategies, and mental health/substance use issues. Empower clients to take ownership of their recovery journey.
  • Provide ongoing support and check-ins with clients, helping them stay engaged in treatment and recovery activities.
  • Work closely with clinicians, case managers, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive care and support for clients.
What we are looking for
  • Personal experience in recovery from mental health and/or substance use disorders.
  • Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) from a recognized body, such as the Virginia Certification Board, or willingness to obtain certification within a specified time frame.
  • Ability to engage with clients, peers, and professionals effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • A genuine desire to help others and a strong commitment to promoting recovery and well-being.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong ability to think critically and creatively when supporting clients in overcoming challenges.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to clients' homes, meetings, and community events as needed.
  • A minimum of a high school diploma/GED or equivalent is required. Higher education in related fields is a plus.
