Heavy Equipment Operator - Underground Utilities (Water & Sewer Preferred)

💰 Pay: Based on Experience

United Trades of America is seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to work on various underground utility projects throughout Birmingham, AL and the surrounding areas. This position requires 5+ years of experience operating Skid Steers, Excavators, and Loaders in construction environments, particularly in water and sewer projects
.

• Operate and control Skid Steers, Excavators, and Loaders safely and efficiently.
• Perform grading, excavation, and site preparation for underground utility projects.
• Understand the limits & safe operation of heavy equipment.
• Load and unload equipment from vehicles.
• Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip equipment evaluations.
• Check and maintain equipment functionality regularly.
• Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance; report major issues.
• Coordinate equipment movement with other crew members using hand or audio signals.
• Identify and avoid potential hazards like utility lines, workers, and obstacles.
• Monitor worksite conditions to ensure health and safety standards are met.

• 5+ years of experience operating Skid Steers, Excavators, and Loaders – required.
• Underground utility experience (water and sewer projects preferred).
• Ability to travel throughout Birmingham and surrounding areas with flexible job site locations.
• Knowledge of equipment settings, controls, and functionality.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members.
• Reliable transportation to various job sites.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Ability to wear and use proper PPE (safety vests, glasses, boots, etc.).

• Lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Climb onto heavy equipment multiple times daily.
• Walk on sloped, uneven, and slippery surfaces.
• Work in varied weather conditions (heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain).
• Exposure to dust, fuel, fumes, loud noises, and moving machinery.
• Sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
• Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
