Overview
As a Barnes & Noble Barista, you are an integral member of the Café team. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way, answer questions, and connect readers with the right beverages and café items. You help maintain attractive presentation and ensure the efficient running of the Café. You may unpack and stock deliveries and tidy the bake case and dining area.
You work the registers in a quick and friendly manner, providing highly professional service.

Responsibilities- Maintain reliable and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts.
- Fill scheduling gaps when able, being flexible and responsive to the store’s needs (open from early mornings to late evenings every day, including weekends and most holidays).
- Be positive and willing in your approach to work, performing assigned tasks with purpose and energy, and working hard and reliably.
- Be supportive and considerate of colleagues, helping others in the team and showing kindness.
- Be consistently cheerful with customers and go out of your way to help them.
- Show aptitude and willingness to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge in the store.
- Enjoy being a barista and demonstrate the behaviors described below.
- Master the operational competencies of a Barnes & Noble barista, including training and proficiency in listed tasks.
- Using varied technology (registers, computers, tablets, programs and other tools) comfortably and efficiently.
- Develop strong merchandising skills to maintain café presentation and cleanliness.
- Develop effective visual merchandising to maintain counter and floor retail fixtures.
- Run a register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably.
- Support the receiving and unpacking of deliveries and the efficient stocking that follows.
- Make food and drinks properly with accuracy, using available information and guidance.
- Maintain café cleanliness through daily and weekly cleaning tasks during shifts.
- Follow FIFO practices and date products consistently and correctly.
- Support the bookfloor team as needed.
- Understand loss prevention procedures and de-escalation techniques, and identify theft or problematic behaviors and seek support when needed.
All this work requires physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting and walking. You may work in other stores if needed, collaboratively supporting the wider cluster.

You will increasingly contribute as you develop expertise and may advance toward the Senior Barista role with new challenges and growth opportunities.
