Overview
We are seeking a dynamic, hands‑on Financial Controller to lead and strengthen our finance operations across 9 divisions and 6 group companies. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will take full ownership of the month‑end close, deliver clear and insightful management reporting, enhance financial controls, and play a key role in developing and mentoring a high‑performing finance team. This broad, influential role is suited to a commercially minded finance leader who enjoys combining strategic oversight with operational involvement, and who will make a valuable contribution to continued growth and development across our Group.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the month‑end close and deliver accurate, timely management accounts
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure strong financial control
- Provide commercial analysis and meaningful insights to senior leadership
- Oversee transactional finance: ledgers, credit control, payments, payroll, VAT/CIS, fixed assets and intercompany
- Manage cash flow forecasting, daily banking and credit balances
- Drive process and system improvements across multiple finance and operational platforms
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external auditors
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of 10 (6 direct reports)
- Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with solid post‑qualification experience
- Proven financial control experience outside of practice
- Strong systems capability, including advanced Excel
- Accurate accounting for Construction Contracts
- Confident with FRS
102, VAT, PAYE/NI, CIS and audit processes - Clear communicator able to influence both finance and non‑finance colleagues
- A proactive leader with excellent attention to detail and a drive for improvement
- Experience managing and developing a team
