The Department of Customer Services is hiring for a Supervising Driver License Examiner I position at the Pearl City Commercial Driver License (CDL) Office. This position is responsible for the supervision of the CDL program, supervising the driver license activities of the commercial driver license examiners and clerks located at the commercial driver license stations.
What You Will Do- Section Leadership & Workforce Management:
Direct and supervise staff; assign and schedule work; set performance standards; evaluate employees; oversee training programs; manage personnel actions, discipline, grievances, and hiring participation. - Policy Interpretation, Compliance & Operational Oversight:
Interpret and recommend changes to laws, rules, and regulations; develop and implement operational policies and procedures; ensure compliance with statutory requirements; represent the section in hearings and interagency meetings. - Commercial Driver Licensing Administration & Decision Authority:
Interview and evaluate applicants; determine eligibility including medical fitness; approve, deny, suspend, or revoke licenses and permits; oversee examiner certification and testing standards; serve as records custodian and expert witness. - Public Relations, Reporting & Program Accountability:
Resolve applicant concerns and complaints; respond to subpoenas and affidavits; prepare statistical reports; support budget planning; ensure transparency and accountability in CDL operations.
Actual salary will be commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval.

Education RequirementEquivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
Experience RequirementThree years of supervisory, driver training instructional, regulatory or related experience, including or supplemented by one year of experience in testing applicants for driver licenses for heavy or commercial vehicles.
License RequirementAt the time of application:
Possession of a valid commercial driver's license Category A (CDL
A) with all endorsements.
