The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is recruiting to fill vacancies at the Kauai Community Correctional Center and the Kauai Intake Service Center.

Positions

  • Social Worker or Human Services Professional III Level – $4,961 to $6,043 per month (SR‑20, Step D to I)
  • Social Worker or Human Services Professional IV Level – $5,369 to $6,535 per month (SR‑22, Step D to I)

Duties

Summary

Social Workers and Human Services Professionals improve the overall quality of life of people within their environment by remediating and preventing problems, improving accessibility, accountability, and coordination of service delivery among professionals and agencies. They establish mutual respect and trust relationships with clients and use various helping interventions to enable clients to function effectively.

These positions are found in hospitals, social service agencies, schools, correctional facilities, and programs concerned with substance abuse, aging, and family violence.

Although work settings and clientele may differ, all Human Services Professionals use similar concepts, principles, and techniques regardless of the program. Social Worker or Human Services Professional III positions are distinguished by the complexity of assigned cases and level of authority.

Type A:
Independent workers who provide assessment, service plan development and implementation, direct services, and monitoring/evaluation and adjustments. Clients include a full range of cases with various psychosocial, physical/medical, and environmental problems.

Type B:
Workers who are not fully independent. Their cases are complex, volatile, or resistant to services. They use established policies, procedures, and casework skills and judgment, but work is monitored by more experienced co-workers or supervisors.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Legal Authorization to Work

Applicants must be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Basic Education – Social Worker

Applicants must possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, or a doctoral degree in social work from a college accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, or a comparable regional accreditation body.

Basic Education – Human Services Professional

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university with a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in counseling, criminal justice, human services, psychology, social work, social welfare, sociology, or other behavioral sciences.

Specialized Experience

Applicants must have progressively responsible professional work experience in helping individuals and families. The required number of years depends on education level and position level. Experience must be of such scope and level of responsibility as to demonstrate ability to perform duties.

Social Worker – Bachelor of Social Work: 1 year for Level III, 2 years for Level IV. Master of Social Work: 0 years for Level III, 2 years for Level IV. Ph.D.: 0 years.

Human Services Professional – 1½ years for Level III, 2½ years for Level IV. Substitutions per minimum qualifications may apply.
