Salary: $3,471 to $4,388 per month (SR-10, Steps C - I)

Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications and other relevant factors.

Shift work: Applicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Duties Summary

The Visitor Information Program Assistant II is responsible for greeting, welcoming and assisting the traveling public by providing information on hotels and other accommodations, ground and air transportation, tourist attractions and activities. The assistant disseminates maps, brochures and periodicals at the airport, speaks a designated foreign language while conversing with the traveling public and others, and provides interpreter services as required.

These duties are in addition to those of the next lower level of this series.

Qualifications
  • Basic

    Experience:

    Demonstrated ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions and a high degree of verbal skill. This may be derived from part‑time or unpaid work with continuous participation, or a high‑school diploma or equivalent.
  • General

    Experience:

    One (1) year of work experience that demonstrates patience, tact, and an even temper in dealing with others. Desired experience includes hospitality or customer service for the traveling public.
  • Special Language Requirement: Ability to speak one of the following languages in addition to English:
    Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Tagalog, Hawaiian, Samoan.
  • Driver's License: Valid driver’s license to drive in the State of Hawaii at the time of appointment.
  • Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Clearance – Federal Criminal History Records Check: Applicants must be free of disqualifying felony convictions within the past ten years. A pre‑employment fingerprint‑based check will be required.
  • Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident alien, or otherwise eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
