Responsibilities
- You will guide trade personnel on various aspects of service shop work.
- You will assign work onboard ships and inside a shop environment.
- You will demonstrate proper service shop work techniques to trade personnel.
- You will regularly communicate with service shop supervisors regarding work operations and problem resolution.
- You will evaluate the work of lower‑graded trade personnel to ensure service shop operating functions are being performed in a safe, timely, and accurate manner.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non‑ionizing radiation and chemicals).
- Personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes must be worn continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Ladders and/or scaffolding may have to be climbed.
- Small and/or confined spaces may be encountered.
- Up to 50 pounds may need to be lifted and carried.
- Visual acuity, colour vision, depth perception, close hand‑eye‑foot coordination, finger dexterity, and keen hearing are required.
- Position may require travel from the normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites.
- Ability to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods is required.
- Work onboard ships is required.
- Specific length of time and experience is not required, but you must demonstrate the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary for the duties at the level applied for.
- Screen‑out element:
Ability to lead or supervise. Minimum two points required for eligibility. - Must meet Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- New employees must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
- Within the Department of Defense, the appointment of retired military members within 180 days after retirement to a civilian position is subject to 5 U.S. Code § 3326.
- Males born after 12‑31‑59 must register for Selective Service.
- Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entering duty; failure may result in withdrawal of the offer or removal.
- Must successfully complete a pre‑appointment physical examination.
- Position may require uncommonly scheduled tours, including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime or night differential pay.
