Overview
This position is assigned to the Fleet & Family Readiness Division, Navy Region Hawaii; the Non‑Appropriated Fund (NAF) Barber's Point Beach Cottages Department (N924), located on Joint Base Pearl Harbor‑Hickam, HI. The primary purpose is to assist in the performance of one or more trade practices associated with carpentry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, painting, and other related trades.
DutiesServes as an assistant to a higher‑grade maintenance worker/mechanic in maintaining equipment and facilities in optimum operating condition.
- Assists in general maintenance, repair and alterations (e.g., doors, floors, walls, ceilings, windows, electrical switches, receptacles, fixtures, commodes, washbasins, showers).
- Assists with repair of recreation/mess equipment, appliances, and custodial duties.
- Performs simple plumbing repairs (replacing faucets, washers; repairing toilet flush devices; clearing clogged drains; tightening pipe joints).
- Performs light maintenance on air conditioning units and intermediate maintenance on facility equipment.
- Assists with minor electrical repairs to switches and boxes, replaces electric lights, fuses and fixtures.
- Drives motor vehicles to and from work sites, warehouses, and dumps.
- Maintains the maintenance shop in a safe and clean condition.
- Observes environmental, safety, security, and housekeeping rules and regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Must satisfy all applicable conditions of employment:
- Pass all applicable records and background check.
- Pass E‑Verify employment verification check.
- Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. national.
- Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- From May 7 2025, non‑affiliated individuals must have a REAL ‑compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of access CNRH Installations.
- Be a current NAF employee employed with the Community Recreation Division's Barber's Point Beach Cottages.
- Include an SF‑50 showing current employment with Barber's Point Beach Cottages.
Resumes must demonstrate experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) relevant to this position.
Skills and Knowledge: Basic knowledge of trade practices sufficient to complete simple tasks using common hand and powered tools. Ability to obtain a valid driver’s license.
Responsibility: Works under the direct and constant supervision of a higher‑grade maintenance worker/mechanic. Performs simple tasks independently after detailed instruction.
Physical Effort: Requires prolonged standing; stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 10 pounds; may handle items weighing 40 pounds or more.
Working Conditions: Work performed both inside and outside; exposure to dirt, paint vapors and fumes, possible electric shock, scrapes, burns and cuts.
Education is not a positive requirement.
