ASRC Federal Communications is seeking a Motor Vehicle Mechanic for our ISS2 contact supporting our Air Force customer. This position is located on Wake Island. It’s a rotational position in which the selected employee will work a schedule of 3 months on the island and one month off unpaid, Wake Island is 2,100 miles away from HNL. While working on-site housing is provided in the form of a dormitory facility.
All meals are furnished through the cafeteria. You are responsible for the flight from your home base to HNL. Transportation to Wake Island is provided by government sponsored aircraft. Works with a wide variety of heavy equipment, as well as light and medium vehicles to support the Company's operations at Wake Island.
- Trouble‑shoot and inspect equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
- Evaluate extent of all equipment repairs and level of action required.
- Communicate the repairs and level of action required to Equipment Manager.
- Inspect and repair heavy construction vehicles and other equipment such as crawler cranes, skid steers, excavators, drills, dozers, hammers, backhoes, loaders, tractors, and other heavy equipment.
- Adjust, repair, or overhaul engines and various components of engines.
- Operate hoists, lifts, overhead cranes, hand tools and various other instruments to safely and effectively perform work.
- Perform routine welding and fabrication work on heavy equipment as needed.
- Maintain accurate service logs and records of maintenance, utilizing paper files and electronic maintenance software, and timely submit all necessary paperwork to Equipment Manager and Accounting.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Perform trade for long hours, day‑after‑day, often in adverse conditions, to complete the project at hand.
- Work closely with a variety of other trades.
- Perform shared cooking and cleaning responsibilities as necessary in the field quarters.
- Report any incident, situation or activity that may affect the company’s ability to operate safely, ethically and profitably to the Company Safety Manager.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance procedures and processes.
- Knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Working knowledge of manuals, schematics and diagnostics tools used for equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Skill in operating a computer, utilizing a variety of applicable software programs.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required, secondary education or vocational/technical training in Heavy Equipment preferred.
- Four (4) years' experience in heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
- Ability to speak, write and read English.
- Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Obtain and maintain a National Agency Check. US Citizenship.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment background check, fingerprints, physical and drug test.
- Previous experience working on military installation.
- Prior welding experience.
- Previous experience working in a remote location.
