Primary Responsibilities: Independently perform inspections, diagnostics and repair of motorcoaches, diesel and gasoline engines, and service vehicles and equipment of a diversified fleet.

General Service and Diagnostics
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and inspection on vehicles/equipment, according to the maintenance schedule timeframe for all vehicles and equipment.
- Evaluate, analyze and test automotive systems to determine nature and extent of defect.
- Estimate and/or document time and labor hours necessary to complete repair or replacement of defective parts.
- Replace, repair, and overhaul electrical equipment, compressed air equipment, cooling equipment, hydraulic equipment, heavy-duty transmissions, gas and diesel engines, drive and steering axles, suspension systems.
Inspections and Road Repair
- Inspect and identify problems; repairs malfunctioning vehicles/equipment.
- Identify needed repair parts, and fabricates parts as necessary.
- Perform emergency field repair, in all types of weather, and including pickup and delivery to the job site.
- Perform general maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
Work Records and Shop Maintenance
- Maintain accurate records of time and materials along with the amount of service provided on each job.
- Maintain work area; maintain tools and equipment in safe, clean and usable condition.
- Responsible for performing more difficult repairs, assist staff in performing duties or when on emergency road calls.
- In absence of the Manager or supervisor will oversee the other employees and ensure that work is proceeding on schedule and deadlines are met.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Orient and train new mechanic employees.
Skills And Abilities
- High school graduate and from an accredited college or trade school or, high school and/or at least five (5) years mechanical experience/training in electronic, diesel, air brakes, and cooling systems.
- Possess at least two (2) years’ work experience as a Fleet Mechanic – 2nd Class.
- Possess a valid State of Hawaii CDL B license, plus passenger endorsement.
- ASE certifications H4, H8, H5, H7, H6 or MCI equivalent Training program.
- Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and effectively work with employees, other agencies and the public.
- Possess methods, materials, tools and techniques used in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance.
- Able to diagnose mechanical problems and performing repairs.
- Possess working safety practices and procedures experience, to diagnose problems and make repairs in the field on a 24-hour basis.
Working Hours
Full-time – shift work, up to 40 hours per week, Sunday - Saturday, or as needed. Overtime may be necessary with prior management approval.
Working Environment
- Mechanical repair work is performed both inside and outside maintenance facility.
- Intermittent exposure to varying elements and weather conditions, up to and including, noise, vibration and oils; mechanical, electrical hazards; atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin; may be required to wear respirator for some duties. May be exposed to solvents, cleaners, fumes, dust, dirt, grease, oils, fuel, and other chemicals used in an automotive/heavy equipment maintenance facility.
