Summary
This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), National Hurricane Center (NHC) with two vacancies in Honolulu, HI.
DutiesAs a Meteorologist, you will perform the following duties:
- Develop forecasts, watches, and warnings for tropical and subtropical cyclones within the National Hurricane Center (NHC) area of responsibility during the hurricane season, May 15 - November 30, and in the offseason as necessary.
- Conduct post-storm analysis to determine the final best track of and compose Tropical Cyclone Reports for tropical and subtropical cyclones as assigned.
- Represent NHC in communicating tropical weather, tropical cyclone, and associated information to a wide spectrum of users, including the media and government officials at all levels, orally and in writing, for operational and non-operational purposes.
- Conduct applied research on topics related to NHC's mission, including the preparation of presentations for scientific conferences and articles for peer‑reviewed publications; and participate in the development, testing, and evaluation of tropical cyclone applications.

* Note:
A one year probationary period will be required under the Direct Hire Authority unless you are a current Department of Commerce (including NOAA) employee and are in the same line of work and with no more than a 30 day break in service.

Basic RequirementsThis position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience in order to be found minimally qualified. Transcripts must be submitted with your application package. You MUST meet the following requirements:
To qualify for the 1340 series Education- A. Degree:
Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or other natural science major that included: 1. At least 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of credit in meteorology/atmospheric science including a minimum of: 2. Six semester hours of physics, with at least one course that includes laboratory sessions.
