Overview
This is the entry trainee level in the Biosecurity Inspector series, designed to provide a career-oriented introduction to the background, philosophy, concepts, scope and interrelationships of the State’s plant and non-domestic animal quarantine and pest control programs. The role includes on-the-job training assignments to provide practical understanding and an initial introduction to the organization, programs, policies and objectives of the agency.
ResponsibilitiesPerforms other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities also include introduction to plant and animal quarantine and pest control programs.
Shift Work RequirementApplicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Salary$4,243 per month (SR-16, Step
D).

Qualifications- Education:
- Agricultural, Landscape, or Integrated Pest Management;
- Entomology;
- Horticulture;
- Nematology;
- Plant and Environmental Protection Science;
- Plant Pathology;
- Tropical Agriculture and the Environment;
- Tropical Plant and Soil Science;
- Biological or Agricultural Science – education must include coursework described in (A) and (B):
- (A) One course in entomology, nematology, pest management, plant and environmental protection science, plant pathology, tropical agriculture and the environment, virology, or related courses.
- (B) One course in agroecology, agronomy, botany, horticulture, plant physiology, tropical plant and soil science, weed science, or related courses.
- Driver's License:

The examination for this recruitment will be conducted on an unassembled basis where the examination score is based on an evaluation and rating of your education and experience. In-person interviews and/or further testing in Hawaii may be required at the discretion of the hiring agency.
