This recruitment is being conducted under the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, a targeted outreach initiative featuring an expedited hiring process, fast-tracking qualified applicants into job opportunities throughout Hawai’i.

Salary: $4,243 per month (SR-16, Step
D)
Shift Work: Applicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

This is the entry trainee level in the Biosecurity Inspector series, designed to provide a career-oriented introduction to the background, philosophy, concepts, scope and interrelationships of the State’s plant and non‑domestic animal quarantine and pest control programs. On‑job training assignments provide practical understanding and initial introduction to the organization, programs, policies and objectives of the agency as well as preliminary experience in the application of principles, procedures, work processes, techniques and scientific reference material to actual situations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- Legal Authorization to Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
- Education: Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor's degree in one of the following areas:
Entomology;
Horticulture;
Nematology;
Plant and Environmental Protection Science;
Plant Pathology;
Tropical Agriculture and the Environment; or Tropical Plant and Soil Science;
- A. One (1) course in entomology, nematology, pest management, plant and environmental protection science, plant pathology, tropical agriculture and the environment, virology, or related courses.
- B. One (1) course in agroecology, agronomy, botany, horticulture, plant physiology, tropical plant and soil science, weed science, or related courses.
