Position
:
Registered Nurse to join the team (Full Time, Monday through Friday, Overnight, 10:30pm start)
Qualification Snapshot
: RN with 3+ years of nursing experience preferred in pediatrics or family medicine. Must possess a current Hawaii RN license and current BLS certificate.
- Provide appropriate and quality nursing care for students and staff following Standing Orders and KS policies and procedures, including assessment, outpatient treatment, and convalescent care for students in the health room.
- Provide health education to promote wellness and preventive health care, as appropriate, and assist with medical clearance for students.
- Assessment and Health Care:
Perform assessment of students and staff including history and physical, provide direct care per Standing Orders and KS policies; may provide support on field trips; respond to emergent situations. - Consult with Medical Director for seriously ill or injured students or staff and refer to Emergency Services as indicated.
- Coordinate referrals to appropriate community medical facilities as needed.
- Perform medical clearance for program entry and screen students for readmission after illness or injury; issue medical restrictions as appropriate.
- Implement provider treatment plans, including dispensing medication and ongoing treatment.
- Determine disposition of students (return to class, home, sponsor, private medical provider, or overnight admission) per Standing Orders and KS policies; communicate with parents, staff, providers, and medical facilities about health status.
- Coordinate with counselors and athletic trainers as appropriate.
- May coordinate population-based care (e.g., Hawaii Department of Health flu shot program).
- May assist with transporting students on and off campus for medical care when necessary.
- Document accurately all services in the electronic health record and maintain confidentiality of medical records.
- Screen student health records for abnormalities, review immunization records for completeness and accuracy; maintain infection control and safety standards.
- Provide health education to promote wellness and preventive health care.
- Provide TB testing and clearance and certain immunizations for employees and volunteers in compliance with Hawaii State health laws.
- May become American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED instructor and provide training to KS employees.
- May supervise Medical Assistants, including counseling, coaching and performance feedback as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or closely related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of related work experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Current State of Hawaii RN license.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
- Good interpersonal skills to communicate with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to perform duties without direct supervision.
- Must enjoy working with children and adolescents.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required to meet goals and objectives.
- Experience in a physician's office, clinic or hospital, preferably in pediatric/adolescent family medicine, emergency room, medical-surgical or equivalent.
- NASN membership.
- Current and valid driver's license.
- Excellent interpersonal relationships to ensure a positive working environment.
- Knowledge of KS healthcare policies & procedures to ensure compliance.
- Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp fine motor skills; speak and hear.
- Close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally stand, walk, write by hand, and lift/carry up to 20 pounds.
- Rarely twist, bend, kneel, crawl, climb, reach above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
- Travel to other locations, including neighbor islands, may be required.
- Work is in an office/health room environment and may occur in non-standard workplaces.
- Typically Monday through Friday with evening and weekend hours often required.
