About the Position

This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center in the Directorate of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics in Honolulu, Hawaii. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco‑free workplace. • Record chief complaint and brief history of pediatric patient problem.
• Assign appointments using written triage guidelines.
• Perform body measurements and vitals.
• Prepare laboratory, X‑ray requests and other forms needed to carry out doctors' orders.
• Assist patients to X‑ray, Laboratory, Emergency Room and Inpatient Units for admission when directed by nurse/provider.
• Participate in planning patient care.
• Perform patient care as directed, indicated, and/or prescribed within scope of license.
• Conduct patient and family teaching to include care coordination.
• Perform treatments and tests using aseptic techniques.
• Assist physicians in performing specialized procedures and exams.
• Prepare and administer prescribed medications and immunizations through various methods.
• Recognize emergent situations and call Registered Nurse or provider.
• Maintain all necessary records in assigned clinic.
• Assist in the orientation of new personnel, students, and volunteers.
• Assist in the supervision of the duties of medical technicians, students and volunteers assigned to the various Pediatric Clinics.
• Input and retrieve information through the various computer systems daily.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
• This position requires the completion of a pre‑employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
• The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
• Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre‑existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
• This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
• This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training from the American Heart Association.
• This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
• This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on‑call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
