Job Description & How to Apply Below

Bullpen Strategy Group (BSG) is a public affairs firm that works with clients to communicate through Washington challenges, adapt to competitive business environments and manage risk. We’ve worked on some of the most high-profile political, corporate, and public policy challenges of the past decade. Today, we bring that same collaborative, all-hands approach to help our U.S. and international clients address challenges with unique, comprehensive, and results-oriented strategies.

We are seeking a director to join our Media Intelligence practice. This position is an integral part of our team ensuring BSG’s client guarantee of round-the- clock monitoring service.

The Director will help lead the BSG U.S. Media Intelligence Team, directly managing a minimum team of six associates and overseeing daily operations, workflow, and quality control. Serving as a senior escalation point for urgent or complex client needs, this role partners with and reports directly to the Senior Director of U.S. Media Intelligence Operations to ensure consistent service delivery and operational excellence.

This role aligns with core team coverage hours (anticipated 6:00am–3:00pm or 7:00am–4:00pm) and requires flexibility outside standard hours to address breaking news, urgent client needs, and team escalations.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has experience leading and managing high-performing teams, with direct line-management responsibility preferred. They demonstrate strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to oversee workflow, ensure quality control, and handle complex or time-sensitive client needs. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable, they thrive under pressure and are available as needed beyond standard hours. An insatiative curiosity, unbiased perspective, and strong interest in current events and politics are essential, along with a commitment to mentoring associates and driving operational excellence.

Areas of Responsibility
  • Serve as a primary escalation point for urgent and high-priority client requests, including rapid turnarounds such as coverage roundups, hearing and regulatory coverage, and other time-sensitive deliverables.
  • Provide hands-on support and backstopping for associates facing tight deadlines, complex monitoring requirements, or unusual client needs, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency with BSG standards.
  • Partner closely with Senior Director to provide broader, “blanket” support to the US Media Intelligence team as needed, including coverage gaps, workload surges, or special projects.
  • Strategically deploy and delegate team resources to respond to both internal (BSG) and external (client) requests, balancing workload, priorities, and associate development.
  • Maintain clear oversight of daily operations, including queue management, deadline adherence, and quality control across team outputs.
  • Conduct bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with direct-report associates to assess morale, address questions or concerns, provide feedback, and support professional development.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative team culture that emphasizes accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify recurring operational challenges or inefficiencies and proactively propose solutions or process improvements.
  • Support onboarding, training, and ongoing coaching of associates, ensuring consistent understanding of tools, best practices, and client expectations.
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with senior leadership regarding team performance, risks, emerging issues, and resourcing needs.
Requirements
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • An undergraduate degree or comparable work experience is required. Majors in policy, government, business, political science, and economics are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Professional demeanor, good knowledge of the national political and media environment
  • Professional experience in a political or news-oriented field
  • Experience with monitoring and/or analyzing world news and current affairs.
