Description- Data Modeling & Visualization:
Design and build interactive Power BI reports and dashboards, converting existing Excel models into optimized Power BI datasets. - Advanced DAX & Performance Tuning:
Develop complex measures, calculations, and optimize models for efficiency and scalability. - Data Engineering Integration:
Work closely with Databricks as the central orchestration and transformation layer, leveraging SQL or Python for data preparation. - Power BI Service Administration:
Publish, manage, and secure datasets and reports in Power BI Service, ensuring alignment with governance standards. - Collaboration:
Partner with data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality analytics solutions. - Preferred Experience:
Utilities or operational technology (OT) data domain knowledge.

The Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer transforms curated data into decision‑ready intelligence by designing semantic models, building performant reports, and delivering governed dashboards in Power BI Service. This role plays a critical part in enabling self‑service analytics, operational reporting, and strategic insights across the enterprise.
- Design and implement semantic models (star/snowflake schemas), enterprise datasets, and DAX/M logic to support scalable, reusable reporting.
- Build production‑grade dashboards in Power BI Service with row‑level security (RLS), usage analytics, and lifecycle management.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering and Machine Learning teams to align on data contracts, performance expectations, and reliability standards.
- Establish and promote visualization standards, accessibility best practices, and storytelling techniques for business stakeholders.
- Optimize report performance and data refresh strategies using Direct Query, Direct Lake, and Databricks connectors.
- Manage workspace governance, app deployment, and version control for BI assets.
- 4–8+ years of experience in business intelligence, data modeling, or analytics engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Power BI (Service & Desktop), DAX, M, and semantic modeling.
- Solid SQL skills and familiarity with Databricks connectors and Direct Lake/Direct Query modes.
- Experience with governance practices including RLS/CLS, workspace management, and version control.
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement, data storytelling, and training delivery.
Contract position based out of Honolulu, HI.

Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
