Job Overview

Position for the State of Hawaii, Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, Unemployment Insurance Division. Full-time, permanent. Located downtown Honolulu, Oahu. In-person interviews may be required.

$4,243 per month (SR-16, Step

D).

Responsibilities
  • Receive formal and on-the-job training and assist in a trainee capacity in activities relating to State and Federal unemployment insurance benefit programs.
  • Work under close supervision of a higher-level unemployment insurance specialist and receive detailed instructions and close review for each assignment.
  • Handle simple cases involving issues resolved through interviews with claimants. Cases involve chargeability of benefits to employer reserve accounts, registration and reporting requirements, and refusal of job offers.
Qualifications

Education/

Experience:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree.

Specialized

Experience:

None for Level I.

Professional experience: Application of unemployment laws, rules and regulations. Experience may be gained by active participation in the examination and adjudication of unemployment insurance claims, investigation of unemployment compensation claims, or examination of financial records to ensure conformance with Federal or State unemployment insurance laws.

Legal Authorization to Work

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program

The PSLF Program is a federal program that encourages individuals to work in public service by forgiving the balance of federal student loans.
