Duties and Responsibilities

  • ** Conducts and develops trainings and workshops related to compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, as well as University policies and procedures, specifically as relating to employment matters and civil rights issues.
  • ** Conducts and develops trainings and workshops related to workplace best practices, including conflict management, employee relations, and management and leadership practices.
  • * * Conducts assessments to help identify skill gaps and training needs within the University in the areas of compliance and civil rights.
  • ** Develops asynchronous, online training materials and modules to supplement live trainings and workshops in the areas of compliance and civil rights.
  • ** Delivers trainings in a manner that is engaging and interactive.
  • ** Works with subject matter experts, as well as independently, to learn and present on new subjects in the areas of compliance and civil rights.
  • ** Develops systems for, and keeps accurate records of, trainings presented and individuals attending.
  • ** Works independently and cooperatively with University administrators and offices on an ongoing basis to implement and troubleshoot new training methods and programs, to improve compliance with and awareness of University policies and procedures.
  • ** Maintains an awareness of emerging issues, policies, best practices, as well as new federal, state amendments and laws, as related to compliance and civil rights, especially as they relate to higher education.
  • ** Develops and applies subject matter expertise in one or more areas of civil rights law (e.g., ADA, Title IX, Title VII etc.) to audit University compliance, conduct site visits, assist in responding to federal audits, and developing transition plans.
  • ** Provides interpretation and advisory services to campus administration and campus investigators regarding UH policies and procedures, State and Federal regulations pertaining to civil rights, compliance best practices, and other compliance-related issues.
  • ** Maintains professional and timely communications between the Compliance Office and others, including but not limited to university administrators, external and internal speakers, and others, relating to workshops and trainings.
  • ** Facilitates and coordinates webinar series hosted by Compliance Office including content for webpages, creating promotional materials, serving as a liaison for Communications and the speakers/presenters, and attendees, event logistics (e.g., setting up zoom events, registration, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Professional Work Experience
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in business administration, communication, education, social sciences, liberal arts or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for learning and development training; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of learning and development training.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and theories and systems associated with compliance and/or civil rights.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of presentations, trainings, and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software.
  • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.

  • Demonstrated ability to serve as an engaging and interactive facilitator of in-person, video, and online trainings and workshops.
  • Prior experience with researching, interpreting, and training on regulations, laws, or policies relating to compliance and/or civil rights (e.g. Title VII, ADA, Title VI, Title IX).
