About the Position

This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Directorate of Nursing Same Day Surgery Clinic (PACU) in Honolulu, Hawaii.

• Provide comprehensive professional nursing care to acutely ill or critically ill patients of all age groups undergoing all types of anesthesia during initial phase of recovery.
• Perform insertion, maintenance, and removal of oral and nasopharyngeal airways, extubating and positive pressure ventilations.
• Respond to and answers patient/family questions and provides information concerning post‑operative recovery and care at home.
• Review history and physical examination, psychosocial evaluation of the patient, patient medications, and lab results.
• Assist with verification of physician orders as needed and communicate significant physiological changes to physicians as well.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
• This position requires the completion of a pre‑employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis: , , , , .
• This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
• Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre‑existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
• This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
• Must obtain and maintain current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network.
• The duties of this position may require the incumbent to carry a cell phone and be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week based on the needs of the organization.
• Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
