Medical Records Technician; Coder

About the Position:

This position is located at the Directorate of Administration - Patient Administration at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC), which is on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

• Serve as Medical Records Technician (MRT), functioning primarily as an inpatient/outpatient records coder.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and requirements in utilizing the International Classification of Diseases-10 Clinical Modifications (ICD‑10‑CM), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS).
• Assign specific codes to medical records, sequencing and determining codes to accurately reflect the resources and procedures used in the care of the patients.
• Use specialized procedures and methods to correct and amend records.
• Code complicated medical records having diagnostic, surgical and therapeutic procedures on specific DRGs that are identified as difficult to classify.
• Identify and document any incident which may denote a potential compensatory event or questionable breach of quality of care delivered.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• One year trial/probationary period may be required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
• Position is Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man‑made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
