Overview
As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. This position plays a vital role in the Veteran experience by providing an exceptional examination process.
These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA process for determining benefits. Your clinical insights help facilitate access to treatment subspecialists and support continuity of care for Veterans.
Clinical Examiners will use a web-based examination form in a proprietary online system to capture patient information throughout the examination process. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, be able to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate strong people skills, and adapt to changing situations. Basic computer skills are required.

Essential Functions and DutiesJob Responsibilities:
- Conduct Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: perform thorough and focused medical evaluations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. Travel up to 10% to other LSGS Clinics.
- Review and Analyze Medical Records: assess medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to understand the Veteran's medical history and health condition.
- Render Objective Medical Opinions: provide unbiased, evidence-based medical opinions regarding the extent of health issues and their impact on ability to work and daily activities.
- Case Management and QA: understand and work in the case management system, organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team.
- Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals: coordinate with other healthcare professionals and experts as needed to obtain additional information for a thorough evaluation.
- Document Examination Findings: accurately record findings in medical opinions and recommendations, following VA guidelines and contract obligations.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
partner with Loyal Source departments to gain support and use resources to meet deadlines. - Time Management and Scheduling: manage availability and scheduling for all C&P exams, ensuring timely service to Veterans.
- Compliance and Quality: adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and standards for disability examinations with high accuracy, fairness, and quality.
- QA
Collaboration:
work with the QA team to submit thorough and accurate examination findings. - VA Training Compliance: maintain compliance with VA training requirements and stay updated on VA MDE program requirements.
- Confidentiality: safeguard patient information in accordance with privacy and security protocols, including HIPAA requirements.
- HIPAA Compliance
Education:
ensure understanding of HIPAA requirements; complete annual assessments with minimum passing scores; complete additional training if required.

Qualifications- Education and Licensing:
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing; valid and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license; permitted to practice in the United States (all states, DC, or territories) with no bans. - Experience:
at least 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner; prior experience in medical disability examinations or related field preferred. - Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. - Military
Experience:
prior military experience or familiarity with military/veteran communities preferred. - Training: completion of specialized training in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous.
