JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Manager in coordinating emergency preparedness activities to insure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and medical staff and the protection of physical property as it pertains to security, emergency preparedness and disaster management.
- Plans, conducts and schedules emergency management drills, response training for Security and other front-line responders and disaster management equipment research and procurement. Maintains working knowledge of the “All Hazards Emergency Management” model and other emergency management and security procedures, rules, and requirements as set forth by the Security Department, Joint Commission, Homeland Security, FEMA and HRSA.
- Leads and implements safety programs and activities, including but not limited to occupational and patient safety, fire and hazardous material/waste management program for The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC) and The Queen’s Health Systems (QHS) companies.
- Ensures QHS’s and QMC’s adherence to and compliance with applicable governing and accrediting agencies’ standards, requirements and regulations (Joint Commission, OSHA, DOSH, DOH, NFPA, etc.) relative to physical and occupational health/safety issues.
- Ensures documentation and files are maintained, as required by applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Seeing, hearing, and speaking, finger dexterity.
- Continuous: sitting, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods, frequent gripping of an object.
- Frequent: standing, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, reaching at shoulder level, repetitive arm/hand motions.
- Occasional: walking, stooping/bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting body, lifting and carrying usual weight of 25 pounds, pushing/pulling 2 pounds of force up to 4 pounds of force, reaching above and below shoulder level.
- Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
- Associate’s degree in occupational safety, law enforcements, health care, public health or related field; or two (2) years work experience in safety, health care, emergency preparedness, security, preferably in healthcare, may be substituted for the educational requirement.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license required in accordance with Hawaii state law rules and regulations.
- Driver's abstract or evidence of good driving record.
- Current BLS certification.
- Certification in the National Incident Management System preferred.
- In addition to the educational requirement, two (2) years experience in healthcare demonstrating knowledge of safety, security or emergency preparedness or hospital processes, preferably in a comparable medical center.
- Prior supervisory and project planning experience preferred.
- Experience and/or demonstrated ability in planning, developing, and coordinating environmental safety activities in a hospital setting.
- Ability to speak, read, write and understand English both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements and emergency preparedness principles, practices, methods, techniques, and equipment.
- Knowledge of security principles, practices, methods, techniques, and equipment preferred.
