School Health Assistant I/II
The position is full‑time, 6½ hours per day (full‑time at 6.5 hours). Authorized level:
School Health Assistant II. Applicants also considered for School Health Assistant I if needed.
- Administer emergency first aid and CPR to students and staff.
- Take temperatures, permit rest, observe and discuss health symptoms.
- Administer oral/topical medications only with parental, physician, nurse, or admin approval.
- Contact parents/guardians about illnesses or injuries and call ambulance in emergencies.
- Perform health‑related screenings (hearing, vision, throat swab, height/weight) as directed by the school health nurse.
- Maintain accurate records and refer abnormal health findings to the nurse.
- Inspect school buildings/grounds for hazards and work with staff to correct them.
- Provide basic health instruction and supervise volunteers in screening tests.
- Serve as liaison between home, school, and community health services.
- Coordinate health speakers and wellness activities, and promote positive health programs.
- High school diploma or equivalent with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Minimum experience:
1 year general work with people; 1 year specialized health experience for School Health Assistant I; 2 years specialized for Assistant II. Total of 2 years I, 3 years II. - Experience includes supervising, counseling, screening, or community outreach involving individuals for medical or therapeutic purposes.
- Understanding of basic health knowledge (hygiene, common illnesses) and ability to use a computer/data processing system.
- Available substitutions:
Bachelor’s/associate’s degree in nursing or related field; community‑college medical assisting program; formal coursework in health/personal hygiene. Substitutions reduce required experience by 1‑2 years.
- Current certification in First Aid.
- Current certification in Child and Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
School Health Assistant I: $2,356.02 per month.
School Health Assistant II: $2,549.00 per month.
