Law Enforcement Specialist

** Position Summary*
* This role is located in the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Protective Service (FPS) with vacancies in Honolulu, HI;
Saipan, Mariana Islands, MP; and Portland, OR. The position is a permanent, full‑time, competitive service appointment. Salary ranges from $61,722 to $104,610 per year (GS‑9 to GS‑11, depending on experience).

FPS is hiring law‑enforcement officers for the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force. Officers may be assigned for up to one year to support this task force and then transition back to FPS. The role requires extensive investigative and enforcement skills.

• Apprehend wanted persons accused of crimes in other jurisdictions; stop, question, detain, and notify the appropriate agencies.
• Prepare final investigative reports, applying rules of evidence and making recommendations to the commander.
• Enforce laws and regulations governing contract guard and Federal facilities, and review facility‑specific post orders.
• Document and report program deficiencies, providing detailed findings and improvement recommendations.

• One full year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑7, including preparing investigative reports, apprehending wanted persons, and reviewing crime data.
• OR a master’s degree or two years of graduate education leading to a master’s, LL.B, or J.D.; transcript required.
• OR a combination of less than one year of experience and at least one year of graduate education meeting a 100% credit requirement (see detailed computation).

• One full year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑9, including preparing prosecution documents, interviewing suspects, and conducting security assessments.
• OR a Ph.D., three years of graduate education, or LL.M. (transcript required).
• OR a combination of experience + graduate education meeting the 100% credit requirement.

• US citizen required.
• Must pass a Secret clearance background investigation.
• Drug screening required; ongoing random drug testing.
• Travel may be required; "Occasional travel" noted.
• Must sign a mobility agreement; may be reassigned geographically.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

• Complete Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP) and Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) courses.
• Fulfill Field Training and Evaluation Program and weapons qualifications under 1315 authority.
• Maintain certification as an EDCT; essential for continued employment.
