For placement into the lecturer pool beginning Summer 2026. Subject to availability of funds and actual staffing requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Teach courses in the assigned subject area;
* Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress;
* Assess student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes;
* Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations;
* Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area;
* Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught (20 minutes per credit per week).
* Classes may be offered online, evenings and/or weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
Functionally native fluency in ASL (ASL proficiency interview level 4 or
5), training/education in ASL teaching methodology (e.g. American Sign Instructors Guidance Network, or Signing Naturally Teachers Training) and one of the following:
* Master's in ASL, ASL studies, literature, or linguistics; OR
* Master's in Linguistics; OR
* Master's in Teaching ASL; OR
* Master's in Deaf Studies; OR
* Master's in Signed Communication; OR
* Master's in Deaf Education; OR
* Master's in Education; OR
* Master's in ESL; OR
* Master's in Related field (Special Education, Foreign Languages, Foreign Language Instruction or Interpreting); OR
* Bachelor's in ASL, ASL studies, literature or linguistics AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
* Bachelor's in Linguistics AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
* Bachelor's in Teaching ASL AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
* Bachelor's in Deaf Studies AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
* Bachelor's in Signed Communication AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
* Bachelor's in Deaf Education AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
* Bachelor's in Education AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
* Bachelor's in ESL AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English; OR
* Bachelor's in related field (Special Education, Foreign Languages, Foreign Language Instruction, or Interpreting) AND 3 years of related work experience and the ability to communicate in written English.
Desirable Qualifications
* Teaching experience related to the course(s) to be taught at the community college level.
* Demonstrated ability to work with community college students.
* Work experience related to the course(s) to be taught.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively.
* Familiarity with competency- and outcomes-based instruction.
* Experience mentoring undergraduate research projects in discipline.
