Reporting Relationship(s)Reports to the Dean of the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences.
Position SummaryThe Director of Learning and Progression is responsible for the planning and delivery of academic services to Education majors and interested applicants in all Education Division degree and licensure programs; managing the student enrollment database; assisting in scheduling of classes; and meeting the information and service needs of students in a timely manner. The person in this role is also responsible for writing and submitting various annual reports, including the HTSB and AAQEP annual reports.
This individual works closely with the Dean, Assistant to the Dean, the Education Program Coordinators and Directors, Field Services, Financial Aid, Records, and university academic advisors to facilitate external/internal student requests with accuracy and integrity.
- Academic Goals (30% of work time)
- Assist Education students to formulate and assess academic and career goals.
- Advise students in the interpretation of placement assessment, registration process, and course selection.
- Track student progress and make recommendations related to curricular requirements associated with their academic goals.
- Assist students with degree planning.
- Assist in the registration of students.
- Meet with or communicate via email/phone with education students, graduate and undergraduate, and create the student’s academic schedule according to the needs of the student.
- Advise students on Praxis requirements.
- Advise students on Student Teaching requirements.
- Advise students on course transfers and substitutions (complete necessary forms).
- Advise students on program expectations and dispositions.
- Academic Policies (20% of work time)
- Monitor courses every term/semester to ensure students are following their advising sheets and only approved students are enrolled in courses as advised.
- Monitor students' academic progress and GPA in the major.
- Identify students who are experiencing difficulties adapting to the academic environment. Provide them with resources and direct them to appropriate services and faculty mentors as needed. Provide followup advising as needed. Advise Dean when students fail to achieve satisfactory academic progress.
- Assist students in understanding and applying academic policies and procedures.
- Review and act on students' requests for various academic actions.
- Assist students in the resolution of difficulties regarding policies and procedures.
- Assist students with probation, dismissal, and reinstatement procedures. Make recommendations.
- Institutional Effectiveness (10%)
- Collect, organize, and analyze student data for program improvement.
- Complete and submit reports to accrediting bodies (i.e., WASC, AAQEP) and oversight organizations (i.e., Title 2, HTSB).
- Assist the Dean with the development of special projects and the generation of related reports.
- Secondary Functions (40% of work time)
- Provide informational sessions to community schools and organizations interested in academic Education programs. Attend and participate in in-house recruiting orientations.
- Work with Faculty to ensure that all students are receiving the support they need.
- Work with the Director of Field Services to coordinate advising and provision of services to students.
- Complete student graduation clearance tasks.
- Respond and assist degree inquiries from former students.
- Investigate past student records to complete and sign Institutional Recommendation forms.
- Participate in Education Division meetings.
- Coordinate job responsibilities with Division Office staff and provide support when needed.
- Work closely with the Education Program Coordinators and Directors for new student onboarding, and other administrative tasks related to management of the education leadership programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
