Elementary Lead Teacher, Gr. K-6

Salary Range: $45,000-$70,000

Assets School K-8 Program is looking for an experienced individual to teach a multi-age (typically two grades within a class. e.g., 3rd/4th graders, 5th/6th graders) within the K-6 Program. There are approximately 16 students along with another teacher (Co/Second Teacher). Our ideal candidate has experience with creating thematic, integrated lessons that are hands-on and appropriately challenging for twice-exceptional learners and with students who may have executive functioning challenges, ADHD, processing or working memory related issues.

Applicants should possess positive and effective classroom management skills, the ability to work closely with colleagues, and above all, have a love for and understanding of “bright and quirky”neurodivergent students.

The Lead Teacher collaborates closely and provides instructional support to the collaboration of the Second-Teacher who supports the Lead Teacher. Teachers receive support within a school team of K8 Counselor, Curriculum Coach and/or Principal. Lead Teachers are responsible for creating lesson plans, supervision, and relationship-building while bringing their own talents and passions to our school community. Ratio is 1 teacher to 8 students.

All students receive weekly resource classes taught by specialist teachers:
Art, Drama, Music, Physical Education, Technology.

• Responsible for creating engaging, thematic lessons tailored to the unique needs of twice-exceptional learners and students with executive functioning challenges, ADHD, or processing/working memory challenges.
• Able to teach math, science (Assets implements FOSS curriculum) and literacy/language arts.
• Provides lessons, classroom management and student monitoring & can facilitate instructions to whole groups (typically 11-16 students with 2 teachers or 8-10 students with 1 teacher)
• Supervise students during times such as recess, lunch/snack, etc., as assigned.
• Responsible for developing and implementing instruction for math (smaller group of 6-8 students) and social studies.
• Ideally, a candidate is able to teach multi-sensory language arts, e.g., Slingerland, Orton-Gillingham.
• Responsible for homeroom class–set-up systems, procedures and schedules.
• Administering individual and group testing assessments as needed.
• Vital role in special events, such as field trips, back-to-school nights, spring art show and other school related events.
• Facilitates parent conferences and responsible for parent communications, including class app and/or weekly class newsletter.
• Perform duties as assigned by curriculum coach, and/or K8 Principal.
• Participates in mandatory Assets training.
• Communicates regularly with the second teacher about upcoming lesson plans.

• Teaching degree or commensurate experience.
• Experience with and passion for working with young people.
• Knowledge of learning differences, reading remediation, and twice-exceptional learners or interested in learning.
• Intellectually curious and empathic.
• Effective communicator and collaborator. Able to adjust when receiving feedback and has growth mindset.

Candidates must already live in the local area or already have plans to relocate to Oahu prior to job interview.
