Under the general direction of the NHSS Director, the hire is expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop student services and co‑curricular programming to recruit and retain Native Hawaiian Graduate students in all academic disciplines and providing administrative support in the day‑to‑day management of Native Hawaiian Student Services (NHSS). Collaborates with NHSS, Hawaiinuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge (HSHK) and University of Hawaii at Manoa (UH Manoa) staff and faculty, students, and/or student organizations to develop and implement student, faculty and staff programming related to Native Hawaiian graduate access, success and research.
  • Develop recruitment and retention strategies, in collaboration with graduate program chairs and the Director of NHSS, to increase the overall enrollment of Native Hawaiian graduate students.
  • Develop and maintain data systems that track and record statistical trends relevant to Native Hawaiian graduate students, performing activities such as survey design and implementation, data collection, and submission of reports.
  • Develop strategies to engage in, or align with University policies that impact or strengthen Native Hawaiian graduate student opportunities.
  • Provide consultation and other related services to students, faculty, staff, communities, and organizations in areas pertaining to educational and institutional research on Native Hawaiian student access and success. Consultation can include resource, capacity building and/or development, training, policy analysis, technical assistance, education, and outreach.
  • Develop a variety of program presentations designed for various constituencies including students, faculty, staff, administration, community partners and higher education researchers.
  • Assist and provide technical support and consultation for program evaluation efforts required for extramurally as well as university funded projects and other internal formative and summative evaluation efforts. Conduct evaluations of programs and services and publish evaluation results in the form of technical, analytical, and interpretive reports.
  • Provide administrative support to NHSS through funding development, grant management and administrative efforts, such as serving as principal investigator (and other support roles) on extramurally funded projects. Identify and lead extramural funding development for Native Hawaiian graduate students.
  • Identify strategic partnerships with academic and student success units at UH Manoa and UH System. Serves on College or University governance bodies and committees. Manages, coordinates and conducts special assignments, projects, and reports for the College or University and/or represents these groups in collaborations and other roles as requested and appropriate.
  • Oversee NHSS personnel, including program coordinators, Graduate Assistants and other student staff.
